Legal Services Act 2007 - the impact on practice
September 2009 - January 2010
Various
CPD Hours: 2
The first stage in the implementation of the provisions of The Legal Services Act 2007 became effective on 31st March 2009 allowing for Legal Disciplinary Practice (LDP). On the same date, firm based regulation was introduced meaning that all sole practitioners must be “recognised sole practitioners” and all other practices (partnerships, Limited Liability Partnerships or Companies) must be recognised bodies. These changes have resulted in major amendments to the Solicitors’ Code of Conduct, other associated rules and the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules.
The seminars are aimed at assisting busy practitioners to understand fully these changes:
- Seminar 1: The Solicitors' Code of Conduct and associated rules (2 CPD hours)
- Semimar 2: The Solicitors' Accounts Rules (2 CPD hours)
Seminar 1
This seminar is aimed at principals in firms of solicitors and is designed to identify the new compliance requirements as well as identifying opportunities for practices to extend their area of practice, possibly with a view to taking advantage of the introduction of Alternative Business Structures (ABSs) expected to be permitted in 2011.
Seminar 2
This seminar is aimed at principals, accounts staff and accountants involved in SAR reports. It aims to update fully a firm’s SAR compliance requirements and identifies the common risk areas for principals and their staff.
