ECHR launches proposals to benefit older workers
The Equality and Human Rights Commission has launched a set of proposals to change employment policies which would benefit older workers, challenging discriminatory recruitment processes, and providing them with further training opportunites and flexible working options.
Citing the results of a study undertaken by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, the Commission states that an extra £15 billion a year could be generated if the retirement age was increased by 18 months.
Baronness Margaret Prosser, Deputy Chair of the Commission, said that this would only benefit the economy and society if done in combination with a 'concerted drive' to meet the health and work needs of the over-50s, and a more flexible approach to working.
